寒い日が続いている東京です。
こう寒いとほぼ毎日鍋みたいな食生活です。
アメリカのバンドGreatful DeadのギタリストBob Weirが10日に天に召されました。
Greatful Dead、この世でこれほどまでに愛したバンドはいません。
10代のころ出会い、夢中になって聞いていました。
サイケデリックロック、アシッドロックなどと称されますが、いわゆるJAMバンドのルーツ。
もうアメリカ一のライブバンドでした。
彼らが即興演奏を多く取り入れていたことは、後に自分がジャズの道へと歩み始めたときに大きな影響を与えてくれました。
福生の基地周辺で彼らのコピーバンドのライブをよくやってました。
自分がアメリカに渡る際も、目的の半分近くは彼らのライブを生で観る事でした。
1995年の最後のツアーもジャイアンツスタジアムにライブを観に行きました。
自分にとって懐かしい青春の象徴です。
そんな生き神みたいな存在だったBobbyが遂に天に召されました。
とっても寂しいですが、とっても感謝一杯な気持ちです。

さて今度の日曜日は吉祥寺音吉MEGに素晴らしいピアニスト吉岡秀明さんとのNew Duoで出演します。

It’s been cold in Tokyo for days.
When it’s this cold, I’ve been eating hotpot almost every day.
Bob Weir, guitarist for the American band The Greatful Dead, passed away on the 10th.
There is no band in the world I loved more than The Greatful Dead.
I discovered them as a teenager and became obsessed with their music.
Their music has been described as psychedelic rock or acid rock, but it is the roots of the so-called JAM bands.
They were America’s best live band.
The fact that they incorporated a lot of improvisation into their performances had a big influence on me when I later began my journey as a jazz musician.
My cover band often performed live around the Fussa base.
When I went to the US, almost half of my purpose was to see them perform live.
I also went to see them perform at Giants Stadium on their final tour in 1995.
For me, they are a nostalgic symbol of my youth.
Bobby, a living god, has finally passed away.
I’m deeply saddened, but also deeply grateful.
